Household Hazardous Waste Content provided by the City of Davis
What is Household Hazardous Waste? Products purchased by the general public that may pose a hazard to human health or the environment are known as household hazardous waste (HHW). Common items may be haz-ardous because they exhibit one or more of the following properties:
toxic: poisonous when ingested, inhaled, or touched (such as rat poison or bleach) flammable: easy to ignite (such as lighter fluid and paint removers) corrosive: eats away materials and living tissue by chemical action (such as oven cleaner) reactive: creates an explosion or generates deadly vapors (such as bleach mixed with ammonia).
Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Events Specific Saturdays throughout the year are designated drop-off days at the Yolo County Central Landfill. There is no drop-off charge to Yolo County residents. The facility is exclusively for household wastes, not hazardous wastes generated by businesses. All events will take place on Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Yolo County Central Landfill.
Free Reusable Household Products Household products such as motor oil, paint, cleaners, fertilizers, and pool chemicals may be obtained free from 9 a . a.m.-11a.m at the landfill the Saturday following an HHW day. These are good, unused or barely-used, products turned in by others.

Aerosol Cans Partially full or full aerosol cans must be disposed of during household hazardous waste drop-off days: however EMPTY steel aerosol cans should be recycled along with your other metal containers.

Household Battery Drop-Off Locations It's easy to drop-off your household batteries for proper disposal. The following locations are available for your convenience: Lonqs Druq Store at 1550 E. Covell Boulevard and at 1741 W. Covell Boulevard, Davis Ace on 3rd and G Street, Hibbert Lumber Co. on 5th and G Street, Rite-Aid Drug Store at the University Mall and at 2135 Cowell Boulevard and the Senior Center at 646 A Street. Davis Ace Hardware and Radio Shack at 634 G Street also accept nickel cadmium. |
